6okken

6okken is an artist-run residency comprising six cottages on the shore of Lake Kawaguchi, at the base of Mt. Fuji in Yamanashi Prefecture. Founded in 2022, it is a place where artists live together and develop their practices in sustained proximity to one another.

The residency is independently organized and operated by artists. In addition to hosting residents, 6okken runs periodic workshops and open camps for cross-disciplinary exchange. While rooted at Lake Kawaguchi, its members engage in collaborative projects across cities and fields, working both within and beyond the framework of contemporary art.

6okken defines an “artist” not by institutional affiliation or medium, but as someone who persists in holding a perspective that would disappear from the world if they let it go.
