《全体の奉仕者》 Servant of the Whole

In Servant of the Whole, tsu-tsu performs as Toshio Akagi — a government official who took his own life in connection with the Moritomo document falsification scandal — based on interviews with his spouse, Masako Akagi.

The performance reconstructs one hour of a morning before the falsification incident, composed as an “Acript” (a map for acting, distinct from a conventional script) — as though the routines of that time were being recalled from memory. The artist repeats this performance from the beginning to the end of the exhibition period, including when no viewers are present. Related materials — interview notes, the Acript, a timeline — are exhibited alongside the performance, making visible the gradual inscription of the subject onto the artist’s body.

This method, which the artist has named “Documentary Acting,” assigns equal value to each phase of the process: the interview, the construction of the Acript, the rehearsal, the performance, and the dialogue with the audience after the performance. No single stage constitutes the “work” — the work is the entirety of the process.

The artist states: “Even if I have never met someone, that person exists within me, and I exist within them. Documentary Acting is a process of encountering the ‘I’ that can only be found inside another person.”
